New Arena
I think there should be another arena which is not as stuctured as the team arenas but more structured than the random arenas. Somewhere u can just go and hit "enter mission" and get assigned to a game that ensures that there is a balanced team even if the game has to fill some holes w/ gaps.
The way that I envision it is kind of like how counterstrike operates.
You get sent to a kind of room where:
-*-two teams of 6-8 square off
-*-each team is balanced w/ a good variety of player classes (1 of each?)
-*-the balance will be maintained by bots (many monk bots will be needed, i think)
-*-after one team is defeated the match restarts (same map to keep load time down)
-*-after one team is defeated there will be a 5-10 second period for people to quit (and quickly replaced w/ a bot or player of equivalent class)
-*-after a team is defeated multiple times in a row players on the team will be swapped around(much like auto-balancing teams on CS) WHICH would require some kind of algorithm to calculate how effective a player is in battle (overall damage or dps is one way but that may not work for good mesmer characters)
-*-during the game players can vote to change the map for the next round.
I think this will be a kind of cool idea. I don't like the random arenas because you have to be more of a jack-of-all-trades because you don't know who will be on your team. For example, rez signet is almost required for effective play in random arenas where as here u can toss it for another skill and leave the rezing to the monk or monk bot.
Also the battles will be consecutive and constant with balanced teams if the autobalance thing is done well.
Problems I see (and i'm sure i'll hear a lot from a lot of you)
-*-server bandwidth issues (are there any?)
-*-how to assign people to games (wouldn't be too hard, if you hit 'enter mission' the game will scan all the game rooms and swap you for a bot of the same class) this may mean that u get assigned to a room w/ only bots in rare cases but eventually people get swapped in their place
-*-bot A.I. problems. (this one is the kicker) there are bots in GvG so I don't see a tooo much of a problem but hopefully ANet will watch for people exploiting the bots and improve their AI and throw together different builds for the same class. (Bots may also be used to auto balance a team by increasing the strength (or smartness) of bots on the losing team.
-*-team composition how will each team be composed? will it be one of each class? or maybe 2 casters, 2 warriors, 1 monk, 1 ranger or some other combination of classes? ( i can't think of a clear answer for this one)
Well that's my idea for a new arena that is halfway between the random arenas and the structured GvG, HoH and Team Arenas. Random team, with a mix of classes but no need to stand around forming a group. Honestly if they make this I would not go to the random arenas again (well maybe on a whim). I would love to see this in upcoming updates or in the expansion.
Also I'm still waiting on the Guild Scrimmages.

ive also wanted something like this. its a pain to have to find a group in team arenas, but in random arenas you never know if you team will horrible, although i ahve been on random groups where i continue into team arenas and keep winning

They already have guild scrimmages. It's just an unrated gvg match that you organize with another guild. The only problem is finding another willing guild, but its generally not a big problem.
Not a bad idea. Well thought out.

Interesting idea. I understand where you're coming from, and I would like an arena similar to this, but I don't think teams should be autobalanced like CS. Instead, if a team loses a certain number of times, that team gets disbanded and a new team is formed--like it is now. Also, no voting on the new map as it's pointless, since the game type would be the same on all maps for this kind of arena, a random map would be just as good as a chosen map. Otherwise, the round-style play would be nice--even though some rounds might last a long time, that's the fun of it. Just make sure that all primaries get included on team sorting, and sort teams by primaries only--sorting by secondaries and even attribute point distribution would be far too segregated and some builds would get less play than others.

Well the reason I thought of the round-based gameplay was to allow for autobalancing. By switching people around the teams and fiddling with the strength of A.I controlled bots, you ensure that the game is as fair as possible.
Although you won't be able to go around and gloat that you got 1000 consecutive wins in this arena, the fair teams will ensure that each time u fight a round, it will be interesting and one team will not dominate if they have more experienced players and the other does not. By spreading it out this way, it gives experienced players a challenge no matter what and gives the more inexperienced players a chance to win as well.
This will give players a very easy first foot in the door for PvP because they won't constantly be having their butts handed to them because of their inexperience.
As for guild scrimmages, what I meant was within the guild scrimmages so u can practice battles with your guild mates and they can offer constructive critizism. Also I wanna kick my friends ass

I see. Well at least we know we have observation mode coming. So at least we can have them watch while we kick other peoples asses haha. It would be nice to be able to train intra-guild though.

Look for a guild unrated internal system soon... Its either going to be a guild arena or a internal guild unrated match option. Anet has stated that this is on the list for the near future.
But they want to get the America tournament going first.
With Observation Mode.
And of course the new PvE missions and areas (sorrows furnace).
I expect it to be just as it is now with the option added for internal match in the unrated challenge menu.

This arena's goals are to:
-create a place with structured teams without having to go through the frustration of making a team
-create teams which are as balanced as possible to keep battles interesting
maybe guild wars can even create an interface for this so that you can choose a room to join. For example, if you are a warrior it would filter out all the games in which warriors are not needed.
that would also open up the possibility of creating password protected rooms if you only want to play with a couple of your own friends.

Yeah they really need to rethink the whole pick up and play arena because random arenas are a little bit hit or miss. I would rather play in an arena like this rather than the random ones.

I would like the option of "automatic match - unrated". It would be nice to have.
